5 Best Playgrounds in Bergen County for Toddlers | NJ Mom’s Guide
Looking for a fun playground in Bergen County, NJ, for your toddler? As a mom of a 3-year-old, I know that finding the right playground isn’t always as simple as it sounds.
For me, a good toddler playground needs more than fun equipment. I also look for easy parking, nearby bathrooms, safe play areas, shade, and enough space for kids to run around.
Here are 5 playgrounds in Bergen County that are worth checking out with toddlers and preschoolers.
1. Overpeck County Park
π Ridgefield Park, NJ
π Parking: Free parking available
π» Restrooms: Available
πΆ Best for: Toddlers, Kids & Adults
Overpeck County Park is a great choice when you want more than just a playground.
The park has plenty of open space, walking areas, and activities, so you can easily spend a couple of hours here with your child.
For a 3-year-old, I especially like having room to run around after playground time.
π Pros
- Lots of open space
- Free parking
- Good for walking and picnics
- Great for a longer family outing
- Various events and activities on weekends
π Cons
- The park is very large
- Can get busy on nice weekends
- Weekend events can attract large crowds
- Parking may be limited or controlled during busy events
Mom’s take:
One of my favorite things about Overpeck is that there are often different events and activities happening on weekends, so there’s usually plenty to enjoy beyond the playground. The downside is that popular events can bring in a lot of people, and parking may be limited or even controlled during busy times. If you’re visiting with a toddler, I’d recommend going earlier in the day.

2. Van Saun County Park
π Paramus, NJ
π Parking: Free parking available
π» Restrooms: Available
πΆ Best for: Toddlers & Families
Van Saun County Park is another great choice if you want to make a full day out of your visit.
Besides the playground, you can visit the Bergen County Zoo, walk around the park, and enjoy other family activities.
It’s also a great place for a family BBQ. If you enjoy grilling, this is a park where you can bring food, set up a picnic, and make a whole afternoon out of it.
And honestly, there’s one funny downside to BBQing at the park: even if you didn’t plan to have BBQ, once you smell someone else’s grilled meat, you’re going to want some too. π
π Pros
- Lots of activities in one location
- Great for a full-day trip
- Free parking
- Great for picnics and BBQ
- Family-friendly
π Cons
- Can get crowded on weekends
- Some activities may require an additional fee
- If you don’t bring BBQ, the smell of everyone else’s grilled meat can make you seriously hungry π
Mom’s take:
If you’re planning a playground + picnic + BBQ day, Van Saun is a really fun option. It’s especially nice when you have several hours to spend with the family.

3. Votee Park
π Teaneck, NJ
π Parking: Available
π» Restrooms: Seasonal availability
πΆ Best for: Toddlers & Big Kids
Votee Park is a great spot for a summer outing because it has a splash pad with a large playground right next to it.
You’ll see toddlers and big kids playing here, so it’s a fun place for children of different ages.
The parking lot is relatively small, so during the summer, it can sometimes be completely full. The good thing is that spots tend to open up pretty quickly, so you usually don’t have to wait too long.
In the summer, I like bringing some snacks and letting my son play for 2β3 hoursβsplash pad first, then playground. It’s an easy way to spend a good part of the afternoon without spending much money.
My tip: If you’re visiting on a hot summer weekend, bring snacks, towels, water shoes and a change of clothes. Your kids can easily spend a few hours here!
π Pros
- Good for a quick outing
- Splash pad right next to the playground
- Easy option for local families
π Cons
- Fewer attractions than larger county parks
- Not really an all-day destination
- Parking lot can fill up quickly on summer weekends
Mom’s take:
This is the type of playground I would keep in my “let’s get out of the house” list.

Saddle River County Park is a good choice if you want to combine playground time with a walk.
The park has open spaces and walking areas, so your toddler can play while you enjoy some time outside too.
It’s a nice option for a relaxed morning rather than a quick playground stop.
π Pros
- Large outdoor space
- Walking paths

π Cons
- The park is spread out

Mom’s take:
If your toddler enjoys exploring and walking as much as playing on playground equipment, this is a good one to try.
