One of my favorite things about Overpeck is that there are often different events and activities happening on weekends, so there’s usually plenty to enjoy beyond the playground. The downside is that popular events can bring in a lot of people, and parking may be limited or even controlled during busy times. If you’re visiting with a toddler, I’d recommend going earlier in the day.

2. Van Saun County Park

Van Saun County Park is another great choice if you want to make a full day out of your visit.

Besides the playground, you can visit the Bergen County Zoo, walk around the park, and enjoy other family activities.

It’s also a great place for a family BBQ. If you enjoy grilling, this is a park where you can bring food, set up a picnic, and make a whole afternoon out of it.

And honestly, there’s one funny downside to BBQing at the park: even if you didn’t plan to have BBQ, once you smell someone else’s grilled meat, you’re going to want some too. 😂

Votee Park is a great spot for a summer outing because it has a splash pad with a large playground right next to it.

You’ll see toddlers and big kids playing here, so it’s a fun place for children of different ages.

The parking lot is relatively small, so during the summer, it can sometimes be completely full. The good thing is that spots tend to open up pretty quickly, so you usually don’t have to wait too long.

In the summer, I like bringing some snacks and letting my son play for 2–3 hours—splash pad first, then playground. It’s an easy way to spend a good part of the afternoon without spending much money.

My tip: If you’re visiting on a hot summer weekend, bring snacks, towels, water shoes and a change of clothes. Your kids can easily spend a few hours here!

Best overall. I love that there’s plenty of room for a toddler to run, play, walk, and explore. You don’t have to leave as soon as playground time is over.

Best for a full family day. With the playground, Bergen County Zoo, open space, and great picnic/BBQ options, there’s plenty to do here.

🥉 3. Saddle River County Park

Best for playground + walking. A nice option when you want your toddler to get some outdoor exercise while you enjoy a relaxing walk.

For me, the perfect toddler outing doesn’t have to be complicated. A good playground, some snacks, and a couple of hours outside can be enough to make a 3-year-old very happy.
