Indoor Activities for 3 Year Olds: Our Favorite Magnetic Tiles
Last weekend, rain and strong winds kept us home all day.
With a 3-year-old, a whole day at home can feel very long. 😂
Luckily, we had one toy that kept coming back out of the toy bin: magnetic tiles.
We have the PicassoTiles 100 Piece Magnetic Tiles, and I honestly didn’t expect my son to play with them this much.

“Mommy, Make This One!”
One thing I really like about this set is the little idea guide that comes with it.
My 3-year-old will bring it to me and say,
“Mommy, make this one!”
So I build it for him.
Then he tries to make the same thing himself.
And sometimes, after I’ve gone back to washing dishes or doing something around the house, I’ll suddenly hear:
“Mommy! Look!”
He remembered what we built and made his own version.
That is probably my favorite part of this toy.
It’s not just something he watches me build. He actually tries to remember, copy, and create on his own.
It’s Also a Train Track!
Of course, a 3-year-old doesn’t always use toys the way they’re intended. 😂
Sometimes he connects the magnetic tiles into a long line and turns them into a train track—or really, a road—for his toy cars.
One day it’s a house.
The next day it’s a tower.
Then suddenly the whole living room becomes a road.
I love that he can keep coming up with new ways to use the same pieces.

And Now I Want More…
Here’s the funny part.
We have the basic 100-piece set, and now I’m the one looking at the other sets on Amazon. 😂
I’ve been eyeing the magnetic tile sets with wheels and the ones with ball runs.

Does my 3-year-old need them?
Probably not.
Do I want to try them? Absolutely. 😂
I’m already thinking that the next Amazon Prime Day might be the perfect excuse.
A Simple Rainy Day Activity for a 3-Year-Old
If you’re looking for an easy indoor activity for a 3-year-old, magnetic tiles have been a great addition to our toy rotation.
No batteries.
No complicated setup.
And the best part is that there isn’t really one right way to play.
Build something from the guide, copy Mommy’s creation, make a tower, build a road, or turn the whole thing into a track for toy cars.
On a rainy day when you’re stuck at home, sometimes that’s all you need.
And if you hear “Mommy, look!” from across the room, you know it’s working. ❤️
